Dr Kate Harwood
Senior Clinical Psychologist
BSc(Hons) MPsych(Clinical) PhDKate sees adults in Como.
I been a Clinical Psychologist for over 15 years, working with adults in private practice and public and private mental health hospitals. In these settings, I have often worked with people who are having difficulties with sleep, including disrupted sleep routines, excessive worry and anxiety, nightmares, and insomnia. I have seen the powerful impact that sleep has on mental health and overall wellbeing. It is often the first habit that I address when people come to see me to improve their mental health.
In my practice, I have worked with people who have struggled to sleep for a range of reasons including stress, busy lifestyles, grief and loss, and environmental influences (such as having to care for babies and young children or shift work). I have also worked with people for whom sleep has always been difficult and has become their ‘normal’ to sleep poorly. I am excited working in a practice that can provide evidence based interventions to help with problems such as insomnia and circadian rhythm disorders. My goal as a therapist is to work collaboratively with you so that you can develop the skills to overcome your current sleep difficulties and maintain good sleep habits long after you have completed therapy. I enjoy working with clients and bring a warm, compassionate approach to therapy.
I trained at the University of Western Australia and graduated with a Master of Clinical Psychology and PhD in 2004. I am registered with the Psychology Board of Australia with Endorsement in Clinical Psychology. I am a Member of the Australian Clinical Psychology Association. I am trained in and have significant experience in cognitive behaviour therapy, mindfulness, and dialectical behaviour therapy.
She is also the Clinical Team Leader involved in supervision and training around insomnia management.
